3 Study Tips for the Productive Homeschooler

August 20th, 2015

3 Study Tips for the Productive HomeschoolerSometimes it’s hard to believe that we are nearing the end of the third week of August. As a homeschooler, this was right about the time that I began getting all my books ready for the coming year!

From homeschooler to homeschooler — want some tips to make the studying go a little easier?

1. Know Your Productive Time – As a homeschooler, your time is flexible (unless of course you have classes at certain times). In order to get the most out of your school day, it’s best to know which is your “best” time to work and when it’s not. If you are a morning person, plan to do the majority of your schoolwork in the morning. If you are night person, do it then. If you work best knowing you have something else later in the day, plan to work later instead of in the morning. Once you figure out what works best for you, you will begin to see how you can get so much more done then when you are not distracted!

2. Schedule It Out – Whether you’re a visual person or not, you tend to be more productive when you know what you need to do each day, or even each week. If you know when your deadline is, plan backwards to figure out how much time you will need to complete that subject. Even if all your daily tasks don’t get done each day (life happens!) make sure that by Friday night your assignments are complete so you can enjoy the weekend and regenerate.

3. Take Lots and Lots of Notes – Even if you want to wizz through something, always remember to pause and take notes. You will thank yourself later when it comes time for studying for a test! Taking notes as you read will also allow you to commit more to memory and you won’t have to take as long going back and searching for the main points later.

So know you are on your way to begin your school year with a bang! Go impress your teacher (aka – your favorite mom) and start being more productive.

Do you have a favorite way to study? I’d love to hear them!
