The Gift of Christmas

December 26th, 2015

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ~Isaiah 9:6 ESV

Gift of Christmas (1)

With Christmas just behind us, I still enjoy dwelling on all the wonderfulness of the season. The older that I get, I find that I love GIVING GIFTS more than receiving them. There is something fulfilling about picking out something for someone that you just know they are going to love!

And isn’t that what Christmas is supposed to be about? God sent down His only Son for us! The most wonderful Christmas gift of all.

In Luke 1, Mary is visited by the angel who says that she will bear the Christ. Mary is the recipient of God’s grace, just as we all are.

And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” ~Luke 1:38 ESV

Mary’s response to the angel is both inspiring and humbling. By exhibiting the faith to accept God’s gift, Mary will be blessed throughout all generations as the mother of the Son of God (1:45).

But Mary recognizes that this gift is from God and so she gives Him all the praise (1:46-47). She knew that by accepting God’s gift, her life would be changed drastically. She would no doubt be subject to ridicule in her community. Mary though decided to rest on God’s will for her life.

What gift did you enjoy GIVING the most this year?
