What Christmas Means To Me

December 24th, 2014

What Christmas means to meTo me, Christmas is a time of family, traditions, peace, and Christ. Obviously Christmas means something different to everyone, but I absolutely love it!

FAMILY. I love my family. I am grateful for the priority it is to always celebrate Christmas (and other holidays) with them. Every year, my immediate family always has our own Christmas celebration after the Christmas Eve service at church. Then, Christmas morning, we go to my grandparent’s house for brunch. After eating, we read the Nativity story and then open presents. Later in the afternoon, we go over to my other grandparent’s house for fondue and to open presents. I am extremely blessed that all my family lives close by and we are able to celebrate together.

TRADITIONS. If you ask anyone in my family, they will tell you that I love looking back at traditions and memories we’ve started as well as making new events traditions. Some traditions we have are always “acting out” the Nativity story at my grandparents. My grandfather will find a different style each year and we always enjoy being different characters.

PEACE. This year especially, I am thankful for God’s peace that can envelope those hurting. My cousin’s family is dealing with the death of their uncle and I can’t even begin to imagine how hard it will be to celebrate. I am so thankful that Christ brought an everlasting peace which can comfort those hurting.

CHRIST. This, I feel, is sometimes overlooked but oh so prominent! What if Christ never came as a humble baby in a manger? What if Mary wasn’t willing to trust God? What if God didn’t want to send his Son into a world in which he would be killed? Everything would be different. But it’s not. Christ truly came as a baby for YOU and ME! He came to show us humility, demonstrate peace, and save the world.

What words come to your mind when thinking about Christmas? What does Christmas mean to YOU??
